How to: Remove a Media Control Interface (MCI).
Solution:
In the 'Control Panel' window, double-click the 'Multimedia' icon. Click the 'Advanced' tab and remove the MCI device driver.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Settings' and select 'Control Panel'. (The 'Control Panel' window appears.)
3) Double-click the 'Multimedia' icon. (The 'Multimedia Properties' dialog box appears.)

4) Click the 'Advanced' tab. (The 'Advanced' tabbed page appears.)
5) Double-click 'Media Control Devices' to expand the list.

6) Select the MCI device to be removed.
7) Click 'Properties'. (The '<device> Properties' dialog box appears, where <device> is the name of the selected media control device.)
8) Click 'Remove'. (The 'Remove' dialog box appears.)
9) Click 'Yes' to remove the MCI device. (The 'Device Removed' dialog box appears.)
NOTE: Click 'No' to prevent the MCI device from being removed.
10) Click 'OK'. (The 'Device Removed' dialog box appears.)
11) Click 'OK'. (The 'Multimedia Properties' dialog box reappears.)
12) Click 'OK' to close the 'Multimedia Properties' dialog box.
13) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Close' to close the 'Control Panel' window.
NOTE: The changes will not take effect until the computer is restarted.
14) (Optional) Restart the computer:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Shut Down...'. (The 'Shut Down Windows' dialog box appears.)
c) Select the 'Restart the computer' radio button and click 'Yes'. (The computer restarts.)
